This intensive research and design programme explores how cities, cultures and ecologies emerge from the sea. Held on the Greek Cycladic Island of Syros, the programme takes place in dialogue with Taiwan, using the Maritime Silk Road to examine how trade, piracy and maritime mobility shaped urban form, governance and culture. It investigates how ports, tourism, shipbuilding and urban growth affect marine and coastal ecologies, positioning the ocean as an active and contested urban condition. The programme asks how coastal cities, cultures and ecologies might be reimagined through oceanic thinking.
